Lifetime Support Scheme Rules Review

Consultation has concluded. Thanks for your contributions.

Have your say on proposed changes to the Lifetime Support Scheme Rules.

What's being decided?

The Lifetime Support Scheme (LSS) Rules have been reviewed and you are invited to provide feedback on the proposed changes.

The purpose of the LSS Rules is to provide clear guidelines on eligibility and the funding of treatment, care and support services for people who have been seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents in South Australia.

Your feedback will be considered in the process of finalising the LSS Rules.

The LSS Rules, once published, will apply to all eligibility and treatment, care and support decisions from the date the Rules commence.

Background

The Lifetime Support Authority (LSA) manages the Lifetime Support Scheme (LSS) to provide necessary and reasonable treatment, care and support for people seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents in South Australia, regardless of fault.

The LSS Rules outline the criteria for eligibility under the LSS and the necessary and reasonable decision making considerations for determining the treatment, care and support services to be funded. Further information about the LSA can be found on our LSA website.

The LSS Rules consist of 22 Parts. Each part is structured to cover different topics (such as Scheme eligibility, necessary & reasonable treatment, care and support decision making, assistive technology, home modifications, motor vehicle modifications, dental treatment, medical treatment etc.).

The Lifetime Support Authority has the responsibility to keep the Lifetime Support Scheme Rules under review, and this is the fourth time the LSS Rules have been reviewed since Scheme inception in 2014.

The Rules are to be read as a whole and in conjunction with the Act, Motor Vehicle Accidents (Lifetime Support Scheme) Act 2013.

The LSA completed an internal review process with relevant staff throughout 2020-21.
