About

With events such as the Adelaide Festival, Fringe Festival, Clipsal 500, the Adelaide Cup, WOMADelaide and other music festivals, there’s a lot happening in Adelaide in March.

The South Australian government is considering options to better coordinate these events.

One way to do this is to look at moving some of South Australia’s public holidays.

Horse racing officials want to move the Adelaide Cup race day back to May. But having a public holiday in March is useful as it lets people get along to other events, including WOMADelaide and the Future Music Festival.

Horse racing officials want to move the Adelaide Cup race day back to May. But having a public holiday in March is useful as it lets people get along to other events, including WOMADelaide and the Future Music Festival.

A recent report commissioned by the South Australian government suggested:

  • moving the Adelaide Cup from the first Monday in March to the second Monday in May from 2014
  • keeping a public holiday on the first Monday in March, to be renamed Festival Day
  • moving the Queen’s Birthday public holiday from June to the second Monday in May.

We want to know what you do on your public holidays, whether they should be moved and what they should be called.

Use the discussion forums below and our online survey to tell us what you think by 11 October 2012 and you could win:
