First Review of South Australia’s Outcomes Framework for Children and Young People
We need your help with the first review of South Australia’s Outcomes Framework for children and young people.
What's being decided?
It’s important for us to work together to enable children and young people to grow strong and to be happy, healthy and safe with opportunities for the future.
South Australia’s Outcomes Framework for Children and Young People can help us do that.
The framework is there to guide organisations to make things better for all children and young people. By reporting data we can all see where efforts are needed to improve outcomes. It’s a useful tool that can help everyone work together most effectively.
We asked for your comment and feedback on the framework.
Background
South Australia’s first ever Outcomes Framework for Children and Young People (Outcomes Framework), which aims to help our youngest citizens (birth to 18 years) to start well, grow strong and experience a good life, was formally adopted on 14 November 2019.
Feedback from children and young people, their parents, carers, families and other key stakeholders in South Australia helped to determine the indicators and measures that are crucial to tracking and reporting the outcomes of South Australia’s youngest citizens. Consultations occurred from December 2018 to August 2019.
Children and young people informed the development of the indicators and measures through nine forums and focus groups, a short online survey and postcards to the Minister for Education.
The Outcomes Framework includes a Charter for Children and Young People. The Charter is an integral part of the Outcomes Framework and sets out the conditions that all children and young people in South Australia can and should have.
The Outcomes Framework must be reviewed every 3 years.

What are the next steps?
Consultation for the Framework review opened on 1 February 2022 and targeted face-to-face community consultations with Aboriginal people occurred from 1 June to 31 August 2022.
The report of this community feedback is now available. This report reflects conversations in Adelaide and with Communities that the Council travelled to in Port Lincoln, Port Augusta, Mt Gambier, the Riverland, Point Pearce; as well as meeting with the APY Women’s Council in Alice Springs.
Having carefully considered all of the consultation feedback including from submissions, an online survey and via YourSAy, the Framework has been revised. Once approved by the Minister for Education, Training and Skills, the Minister will table the revised Framework in Parliament.
