South Australia Police Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2025-2029
How accessible and inclusive is South Australia Police (SAPOL) for people living with disability?
What's being decided?
SAPOL is reviewing its services and facilities to ensure they are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of people living with disability.
This review will inform the development of our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2025-2029, which outlines the actions we’ll take to improve access and inclusion across SAPOL.
We are committed to providing services that are accessible to all South Australians and ensuring that everyone feels included and supported when engaging with SAPOL.
The updated Disability Access and Inclusion Plan will help us:
- Identify and remove barriers to access.
- Improve the inclusiveness of our services and facilities.
- Strengthen our understanding of the needs and experiences of people living with disability.
Your insights are important to us. By hearing directly from the community, we can better understand what’s working, what needs improvement, and how we can deliver services that truly meet the needs of all South Australians.
We’ve made progress—but we know there’s more to do. With your help, we can do better.
Background
SAPOL is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible environment for all members of the community, including people living with disability and its workforce. This commitment is embedded in SAPOL’s Vision 2030 and strategic direction and is reflected in ongoing efforts to ensure policing services are respectful, responsive, and accessible to everyone.
SAPOL is now preparing its Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2025–2029. This plan will serve as a strategic framework to guide the organisation through its next phase of progress - addressing ongoing challenges and embedding inclusive practices into everyday policing and workplace culture. It will be shaped by insights gained from previous plans, meaningful stakeholder consultation, and evolving community expectations.
SAPOL’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan forms part of a whole-of-government commitment to advancing disability inclusion across South Australia and aligns with the State Disability Inclusion Plan, which sets out priorities for improving access, inclusion, and participation for people living with disability.
What SAPOL Is Doing
SAPOL continues to take action to improve accessibility and inclusion, including:
- Expanding disability awareness training for all staff
- Increasing employment and volunteering opportunities for people living with disability
- Upgrading facilities to improve physical access
- Collaborating with community leaders and service providers to improve systems and outcomes
- Enhancing online systems and communication for greater accessibility
- Supporting employees living with disability through flexible work options and wellbeing programs
Why Your Feedback Matters
Your input will help shape the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2025–2029 and ensure SAPOL’s services continue to evolve in ways that are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of people living with disability. We want to hear what’s working, what needs improvement, and your ideas for the future.
This consultation forms part of a review and reflects SAPOL’s commitment to providing an accessible and inclusive service.
