What is the proposed Urrbrae Agricultural High School Oval redevelopment project?
The proposed Urrbrae Agricultural High School Oval redevelopment is an initiative to upgrade the sporting facilities at the Urrbrae Agricultural High School. Stage 1 includes an improved sports oval with lighting, new goalposts, and behind-goal netting. The proposal for Stage 2 includes construction of a modern pavilion with changerooms, multipurpose education spaces, storage facilities, student and umpire amenities, undercover seating, kiosk, coaching boxes and interchange shelters.
Who is funding the redevelopment?
The project has funding commitments from the Australian Government, South Australian Government, and external partners - the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), Sturt Football Club and the Australian Football League.
How will the redevelopment benefit the school and local community?
The redevelopment will:
Will the facilities be open to the public?
Yes. While the primary users will be students from Urrbrae Agricultural High School and the Sturt Football Club, the upgraded facilities will be designed to support broader community access.
How will the redevelopment create better opportunities for children and young people in sport?
Upgraded facilities are designed to foster greater participation in sports for children and young people by removing barriers and providing safe, inclusive spaces. Features such as modern changerooms, inclusive designs, and improved playing surfaces will make it easier for all young people to engage actively in football and other sports. New lighting increases the possible hours of use to expand participation. These enhancements aim to promote participation at both recreational and competitive levels, for all genders, encouraging a lifelong connection to health, fitness, and teamwork.
When will construction begin, and how long will it take?
Construction will begin in phases, with Stage 1 expected to commence after public consultation, passage of legislation to amend the terms of the Waite Trust and granting of necessary approvals. Timeframes for completion of the upgrades will be shared once plans are finalised.
What role does the Sturt Football Club play in this project?
The Sturt Football Club is a key partner in the redevelopment. The upgraded facilities will provide a second oval for the Club and support its training and development programs, including junior and women's teams, outside of school hours.
Why the terms of the Waite Trust need to be amended?
The land on which the school is located was gifted to the Government by Mr Peter Waite in 1914 and is subject to the terms of the Waite Trust. An Act of Parliament will be required to amend this Trust to enable construction of the facilities in Stage 1 and Stage 2 by the Sturt Football Club and to allow the Club to use the upgraded oval and associated facilities outside of school hours under a long-term licence agreement.
Will community feedback influence the project?
Absolutely! Feedback from community members, students and other stakeholders will be central to shaping the final design and ensuring the project meets the needs of all users.
