SA Health Veteran Wellbeing Action Plan 2023-26

Consultation has concluded. Thanks for your contributions.

We want to hear your feedback on the draft SA Health Veteran Wellbeing Action Plan 2023-26.

What's being decided?

The Veteran Wellbeing Action Plan 2023-26 seeks to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for veterans and includes actions across three priority areas:

  • Supporting access to health care
  • Supporting veteran wellbeing; and
  • Building better evidence.

We want to hear from current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members, family members and carers of current and former ADF members, people working in organisations to support veterans and their families, and anyone who has an interest in veteran health and wellbeing.

This feedback will be used to support our work in improving information and facilitating access to health and wellbeing services.

Background

The SA Health draft Veteran Wellbeing Action Plan 2023-26 has been developed in consultation with the Veteran Health Advisory Council (VHAC), following a review of the Framework for Veterans Health Care 2016-2020.

The Plan utilises data from the 2021 National Census to provide context of the veteran demographic and some of their needs across Australia. This is the first time that the Census has included a question on veteran status.

The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide was established on 8 July 2021 and the final report is due on 17 June 2024. An Interim Report, published on 11 August 2022, contains 13 recommendations about urgent and immediate issues, many indicating the need to improve accessibility to compensation and support services. The findings and recommendations of the final report will highlight key priorities and future actions to be undertaken, recognising that priorities at a national level may shift significantly over the next three years..
