Consultation has concluded

We want your feedback on the proposed reintroduction of the collection of wholesale alcohol sales data in South Australia.

What's being decided?

We are proposing to reintroduce the annual collection of wholesale alcohol sales data.

Wholesale alcohol sales are the sale of liquor from one licensee to another licensee. If the licensee does not undertake wholesale transactions, the proposed reporting requirements will not apply.

This targeted consultation invites licensees and other interested parties to provide feedback on the proposed reintroduction of the collection of wholesale alcohol sales data in South Australia.

Feedback from the consultation will inform how the data collection will be implemented and any exemptions to the data collection.

Background

Excessive alcohol consumption is an important public health issue. Being able to measure the level of alcohol consumed by South Australians is essential in working to improve the health of the community. There is a strong relationship between alcohol consumed and alcohol related harms such as road injuries, falls and assaults.

Currently, there is no data being collected that can provide alcohol consumption levels for the state, there is only national level data available. Access to South Australian wholesale alcohol sales data will enable trends in per capita alcohol consumption to be tracked, together with an analysis of beverage type consumed by area of the state. This will enable emerging trends in alcohol consumption to be monitored.
