Women's and Children's Health Network - Disability Access and Inclusion, and Autism Strategy Action Plans 26 to 30

Let us know what you think of our draft Disability and Autism action plans

What’s being decided?

We're seeking feedback on the draft Disability, Access and Inclusion and Autism Strategy Plans (the plans). Your input can help build improved access and inclusivity for people with disability, autistic people and their carers accessing care with the Women's and Children's Health Network (WCHN).

The Plans have been co-designed with WCHN consumers of care (consumers) and carer advocates (advocates who provide care to consumers) to improve access and inclusivity for people with disability and autistic people accessing care at WCHN.

These draft plans flow from the State Disability Inclusion Plan and the State Autism Strategy Action Plan. State Autism Strategy Action Plan

Background

WCHNs Disability Access and Inclusion and Autism Strategy Action Plans support the achievement of the State Disability Inclusion Plan and the State Autism Strategy Action Plan, both of which underwent significant stakeholder engagement and consultation.

While it's important that the WCHN Plans align with the State Plans, which underwent significant consultation, WCHN is developing our own plans to meet the needs of people with disabilities and autistic people and their carers who receive care from WCHN.

WCHN has developed it's own draft ‘measures’ to determine the success of actions in the Autism Strategy Action Plan, assigned under the State Autism Strategy Action Plan.

The project so far

We began engagement and consultation with consumers and carers in 2024 using co-design principles to create the Draft WCHN Disability Access and Inclusion Plan and Autism Strategy Action Plans that are presented here on Your SAy for public consultation.

WCHN is currently developing a co-design toolkit, which will define co-design at WCHN. A working definition is:

“Co-design is a process for shared decision making and problem solving where people with lived experience and those who provide care, including staff, work together to identify problems and create, use and evaluate solutions.”

Co-design is a priority action of WCHN Strategy Refresh 2026 & Beyond, and the implementation of the actions in our Disability Access and Inclusion and Autism Strategy Action Plans will be co-designed with consumers, carers and staff.

What are the next steps?

We will consider your feedback to finalise the Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN) Disability Access and Inclusion Plan and Autism Strategy Action Plan 2026 to 2030. The final Plan will be released in early 2026 and will be available on WCHN website and on Your SAy.
