What's being decided?

We’re engaging with the community to make sure our draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan reflects real experiences and priorities. Your input will help us identify gaps, strengthen actions, and ensure the plan supports meaningful inclusion for people with disability. All feedback will be reviewed to refine the final plan before it’s published.

Background

This draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) has been developed to support inclusive and accessible outcomes for people with disability across our system. This includes students in South Australia’s public education system, and the staff who work for the Department for Education across our range of services and workplaces. It is aligned with South Australia’s State Disability Inclusion Plan 2025-2029 (State Plan), ensuring a consistent, whole‑of‑government approach to improving access and inclusion across the state.

The State Plan was shaped through extensive statewide consultation, involving people with disability, carers, families, advocacy organisations, Aboriginal communities, service providers, and government partners. Engagement activities included surveys, public forums, targeted workshops, and stakeholder discussions, capturing lived experience and priority areas identified by the community. This consultation provided a strong foundation for the development of this draft DAIP and informed the domains, priority areas and actions.

The DAIP also aligns with broader national and international frameworks, including Australia’s Disability Strategy (2021-2031) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). These frameworks support a rights‑based approach that promotes participation, recognises diversity, and works to remove barriers for people with disability.
