Help us develop a Koala Plates grants program.

What's being decided?

We are developing a grants program to distribute funds raised from sales of the Koala State number plates.

As a member of the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector, we’d like your feedback on the structure of this program, including proposed grant models and other key considerations.

Understanding your perspectives will help us determine how to best structure the grants program, and utilise the money raised to support your important work.

Background

In July 2023, the state government introduced new ‘Koala State’ number plates. $50 from each sale went into a fund to support the state’s wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector.

As of 17 December 2023, 1,549 plates have been sold meaning that $77,450 is available to distribute to the sector. This money will be distributed through a grants program to permitted wildlife carers and/or organisations.

The program aims to support the sector and improve animal welfare outcomes for sick, injured or orphaned animals.
