Consultation has concluded. Below is a record of the engagement.

Have your say on a proposed new suburb name Riverlea Park and its boundaries.

What's being decided?

It’s proposed to rename a portion of Buckland Park to Riverlea Park where an urban development project is underway.

Background

Buckland Park is the site of a planned residential, commercial and industrial master-planned community that is currently under construction. The developer has provided a submission to the Surveyor-General requesting to rename part of the suburb to help differentiate the area being developed from Buckland Park’s agricultural and rural identity.

Under the proposal, a 1600 ha section of Buckland Park (as shown in the maps) would be renamed Riverlea Park. The suburb name of Buckland Park would be kept for those parts of the existing suburb which will remain agricultural.

Some properties just outside of the development would also be included in the name change. This is so that Riverlea Park would have logical and recognisable suburb boundaries, including Port Wakefield Highway to the east and Carmelo Rd to the south.

What are the next steps?

The Surveyor-General will consider all feedback and a recommendation will be made to the Minister, the Hon Vickie Chapman MP.

Here's a good ideal, build a new suburb on a flood plain. Who will be responsible for the insurance claims? A new name - that's easy - Flood Plains.

With such a large area for development let's hope there is plenty of greenery around. This and surrounding areas need greenery. A lot of bitumen and wasteland around that area. With it's popularity on a dramatic wise why not build a world class public golf course so people can enjoy the outdoors.

It will certainly be a River, next time it floods.

I am all for new development, but not at the cost of other existing estates if it has anything to do with the Playford council. I find that they are quick to have certain rules and regulations on new builds on new estates, but there follow up and rate payers maintenace leave a lot to be desired. It dissapoints me that certain roads that are are off the Northen Expressway have been poorly designed eg Curtis Rd and Womma, that have lead to unbelievable traffic congestion in the area. Schools have been put in and no consieration has been given to traffic congestion eg Mark Oliphant College and a soon to be built school at Angle Vale. All schools in the area need to have different finishing times so the school traffic does not have an adverse effect on existing traffic.

The proposed new name should either be a heritage name or an aboriginal name for the area. Instead of Riverlea Park, It could be called Gawler Wirra or simply Wirra.

Keep it short and simple Riverlea. In the future this name gives the opportunity to have Riverlea North, Riverlea South etc.

Another name which could work is Riverlea Lakes due to the man made lake system which is being developed. Similar to West lakes & Mawson Lakes

Park on the end sounds like Elizabeth park & Davoren Park been so close to them suburbs. Riverlea is short & simple and what we know it as already ❤

Riverlea ❤ short & simple. Plus all the advertising now is just Riverlea keep it what we all know it as.

RIVERLEA has a nice sound to it..

The names Riverlea and Riverlea Park are too boring. Isn't there a local simple aboriginal name that could be used like Wirra. aboriginal for river).

Edward Burgess over 2 years ago

Riverlea sounds so much classier and simpler than Riverlea Park. The public probably wouldn't say park on the end, and it will just be annoying for future residents like myself to have another word added to our address.

RIVERLEA is perfect 🙂

Would be much better as just ‘Riverlea’, but otherwise Riverlea Park

LaurenD over 2 years ago

I would like it to be just Riverlea.

Jodie13 over 2 years ago

If it can't just be named riverlea, I'd rather have it stay as buckland park as that's what most of us know it as now
