Background
In 2019, we gathered together with key stakeholders – landowners and groups who had a strong and immediate interest in the State Sports Park – to begin a process of collectively developing a Master Plan for the State Sports Park with consultant planners Jensen Plus.
In June and July 2020 we sought your comments on the State Sports Park Structure Plan (the first stage of the Master Plan), and also suggestions for the kinds of activities that you thought desirable or needed at the Park.
Roadside banners, letter box drops, email and social media avenues were used to promote the consultation to residents, interested individuals and sports/recreation-related groups.
This resulted in:
- nearly 5000 visits to the YourSAy website
- 185 downloads of the Structure Plan
- 134 votes for particular activities
- 183 comments and suggestions
- 15 lengthy email submissions
How has this influenced the draft Master Plan?
Some of the key consultation outcomes included were:
- increased environmental and revegetation opportunities, and the integration of a cycling criterium track in Foresters Forest
- improved accessibility from surrounding communities and safety aspects
- active recreation opportunities, including those for younger and older users
- inclusion of specific sports such as cricket, gridiron, archery and orienteering
- opportunities for larger indoor centres and cafes in the Sports Park Village and other mixed use areas
- preservation of viewpoints and vegetated buffer areas
- stormwater harvesting and re-use.
