Have your say on a NEW proposed re-alignment of a portion of the Hackham suburb boundary and name change to Onkaparinga Heights.
What's being decided?
We are seeking your feedback on a revised proposal to realign part of the suburb boundary of Hackham and assign the name Onkaparinga Heights bound by Main South Road to the west, Piggott Range Road to the south and east and by Cottage Lane and the Industrial land to the north as shown on the attached map.
Please note: This consultation is separate to the one undertaken in December 2022. Please take the time to note the difference in this new proposal - which is based on feedback from the December 2022 consultation - and provide your feedback to ensure your voice is heard.
You can view the REVISED MAP of the current and proposed boundary.
Background
The southern portion of Hackham is being developed to become a master-planned community offering up to 2000 new homes. This proposal provides a clear distinction between existing industrial zoning current and future residential development.
The developer has provided a written submission to the Surveyor-General requesting to change the suburb name of the area being developed to Onkaparinga Heights.
Realigning the boundary and providing a new name for this portion of the existing suburb of Hackham provides a unique identity for a new and growing community while maintaining logical and recognisable suburb boundaries.
The proposed name, Onkaparinga Heights, reflects the geographical location and elevated topography of the area.
Initial consultation for the suburb boundary realignment and renaming was undertaken in December 2022. Feedback received during this consultation indicated an overwhelming support from residents north of Hepenstal Road particularly those within the 'Onkaparinga Views Estate' to be included in the new suburb.
Under the Geographical Names Act 1991 any changes from the original proposal will require subsequent public consultation following a public notice.
The suburb renaming will affect existing residents within the proposed area. If approved, residents in the highlighted area would have their suburb name changed from Hackham to Onkaparinga Heights and will need to update their address with multiple agencies and organisations.
The public notice was published in the Government Gazette dated 16 February 2023 beginning public consultation and can be viewed at sa.gov.au/placenameproposals.
